A lot of the work here is practical. Some owners have already bought a kit and want it set on a level pad, sealed and inspected, which is why professional kit assembly is a regular part of our week, along with heaters for rooms that never got hot enough. Other owners want something no catalog sells, so we start with layout drawings and plan sets and then build a room cut to their own measurements. We also put saunas into inns, rentals and gyms.
Fire weather shapes the county. PG&E shutoffs have left whole valleys dark for days, and many owners now ask for saunas heated by a firebox, which keep working with the power off. We plan the flue, spark arrestor and clearances, and build outdoor rooms with ember-resistant vents and noncombustible roofing, then help you rebuild with fire and smoke damage repair when an older room needs it.

What sauna work costs in Sonoma County
Prices depend on the site as much as the sauna. These are the ranges we quote most often:
- Heater installs in an existing room $1,500 to $6,000; kit assembly $1,800 to $7,000 in labor, plus pad and electrical
- Barrels $8,000 to $22,000; infrared rooms $4,000 to $15,000; indoor rooms $8,000 to $25,000
- Backyard cabins $14,000 to $45,000; custom builds from about $15,000 to past $60,000
- Wood-burning rooms $12,000 to $45,000; steam showers in a remodel $8,000 to $20,000
- Cedar tubs $9,000 to $30,000; plunges $6,000 to $20,000; commercial saunas from about $40,000
Repair visits run $200 to $1,500, with full restorations higher. A design-only plan set costs $1,200 for a simple indoor layout and several thousand for a detailed outdoor or commercial one. Add a soak with a round cedar hot tub, a cold tub from our chilled plunge installs, or a room inside the house through garage and basement sauna conversions, and we price each part separately.
How a job runs, start to finish
Step 1: Site visit
We walk the property, open the panel, look at the ground and access, and talk through heat source and size. You get a written quote within a few days.
Step 2: Permits and ordering
We draw the plan, file with Permit Sonoma or your city, and order the heater, cedar and any kit parts so they arrive when the pad is ready.
Step 3: Build
Footings or pad, framing, insulation, foil barrier, lining, benches and wiring. Most indoor rooms take two to four weeks, outdoor cabins longer.
Step 4: Inspection and handover
We meet the inspector, fire the room for its first full heat, and show you how to run it, clean it and dry it out.
Questions before you call
Do you build anywhere in Sonoma County?
Yes, from Schellville and Petaluma north to Healdsburg and Windsor, and west to Occidental, Guerneville and Bodega Bay. Remote parcels may carry a travel line in the quote.
Can you assemble a kit I bought elsewhere?
Yes. We read the maker’s instructions and warranty terms, build the pad, assemble and seal the kit, and pull the electrical permit.
Wood or electric: which should I pick?
Wood suits rural lots with room for a chimney and owners who want heat during an outage. Electric suits town lots and owners who want to start the room from a phone. We look at your lot and panel before recommending either.
How long does a typical build take?
A heater swap can be a day. Kits take one to three days on site. Indoor rooms run two to four weeks, and cabins four to eight, plus permit time.
Will my panel handle a sauna heater?
Usually, if it has spare capacity. A typical stove heater wants a breaker of its own at 240 volts. We do the load math on site, and where the panel is full we suggest infrared, a smaller heater or an upgrade.
Do you repair saunas built by others?
Yes. Heaters, controls, sensors, benches, doors and linings, plus smoke- and fire-damage rebuilds.
